We Need to Talk
Role Playing as Evan Koth Evan sighed and slipped his hands in his pockets, slowly trundling down one of Hogsmeade's many winding side streets. After a moment he stopped, realising how stupid he was being – in the event of an attack it would take him extra precious seconds to sort himself out; seconds that could mean the difference between life and death. What was happening to him lately? Ever since Lilli had entered his life… he couldn’t help but smile at the thought of her, but even so he needed to stay on his guard; she wouldn’t always be around to help save him. He shook his head and continued on his way, moving faster and more purposefully now towards the main high street – at least he could look busy even if he wasn’t. Wow. Evan stopped, looking up. For the first time in his life, he had the luxury of being bored. In a permanent life or death situation like the one he had grown up in, slouching around not only could but most probably would get you killed. After a moment the dingy street opened out to the busy shopping street that he knew to be Hogsmeade. Shoppers of all shapes and sizes were hurrying around, most of them clutching little plastic bags full of whatever rubbish they had bought. Evan watched them go, leaning on one of the shop fronts as he did so.

RE: We Need to Talk
Mosden had been inside the shop that Evan was leaning against. It was a spellbook shop, and he had just bought Transfiguration and Charms books. Now that he was beginning to see another side of magic he hadn't known, he wanted to delve deeper into it and find something interesting. Charms would be hard for him to pay attention to, but he could at least try. Thanking the shop keeper and walking out, he noticed Evan leaning against the door. "Morning Evan."

RE: We Need to Talk
Evan watched the figure in the shop, his eyes narrowing. He knew the figure from somewhere, but from his position he couldn't quite make it out. He was coming towards him! Evan yanked out his wand, spinning around to face the perceived threat. When he spotted Mosden, he blushed slightly and slowly stowed his wand away. "Sorry about that, Mosden. I'm a little... jumpy," he murmured, getting up and moving to greet the boy. "How are you?"

RE: We Need to Talk
Mosden raised an eyebrow. Why was he so jumpy? In terms of nearby threats, the closest thing was knockturn alley, and that was clear across the village. He decided to brush it off and shrugged at his question. "I'm doing okay. Kinda tired, but I'll manage. How about you?" He asked, pulling out his wand. He didn't want to carry the books, so quickly shrank them and put them in his pocket.

RE: We Need to Talk
"I never knew Hogwarts would be so... complicated. All these people around, and you see them every day," he said honestly, sighing. On the streets, winding his way between the gangs, he had rarely been with the same person for more than a week. He had been too independent for that. But now, he had no choice. "Look," he began. "I'm sorry about what happened in class. Kayla and I. We have history. I suppose you could see that." Looking back on it now, it really had been stupid. Maybe he should try and make amends he thought. But no, Lilli would no go for it. And that image of her lying there, in a pool of blood, was still too raw in his mind.

RE: We Need to Talk
"Yeah. Being around so many people can get nerve wracking." He agreed. He was used to seeing at most three people, and only one of them was a constant. When Evan started to talk about the incident in class, Mosden shook his head. "No reason to be sorry. She shouldn't have done that to you. I guessed that there's a history between you and her and I'm not going to pry." He lied, giving no reason to be questioned. He promised Izzy he would stay quiet about it, and he wasn't about to go back on it.

RE: We Need to Talk
Evan knew that out of the entire school, perhaps only Mosden would understand what he was saying - it seemed that most people were used to such crowded environments. "No, she shouldn't have," he agreed. "But..." he shuddered as he went over the memories of that battle, which were still ever so raw in his mind. "What I did," his voice was lowered to a whisper. Even as he spoke he knew that Mosden would have no idea what he was talking about, but nevertheless he found himself trusting him. That had only ever happened with one person before - Lilli. "The sight of her lying there, covered in blood," he continued, more to himself than anything else. His voice became slightly pleading, as if he was trying to excuse his actions. But this hadn't been the same.
Evan had used the Cruciatus curse three times in his life. The first, he had been avenging his parents. The second, he had somehow been reprieved. But this was different. The bad blood was still there, and it was only getting worse. "I wasn't in control of myself. What she did..." he broke off, looking away ashamedly. He coughed loudly, quickly returning to normal. "Sorry. So, I see you're quite a fine dueller. Where did you learn?" he asked in an obvious bid to change the subject.

RE: We Need to Talk
Mosden had managed to keep a straight face. It was hard, and he was sure that he heard his teeth gritting when he said 'What I did', but he forced himself to stay calm. 'lying there, covered in blood'? He must be talking about Lilli. The next thing he heard was an apology, which he waved off. "You didn't do anything to me, no need to apologize." When Evan asked about his dueling skills, he gave a dark smirk. "My guardian, William Vincent. I had to learn quickly and effectively or he would kill me. I was taught what he wanted me to know and nothing else. Unfortunately, he was obsessed with Dark Arts and the defense against them, so I have little to no profession in the other branches of magic." He explained, thinking of charms. "So what about you? You're pretty good yourself."

RE: We Need to Talk
Evan looked up, surprised to see Mosden's reaction. He really wasn't going to pry. But was that teeth gritting? "Mosden..." he began, still unsure whether it was worth asking or not. "You sure you don't know anything about what happened?" he paused before continuing with his reply. "Wow, I suppose that's a pretty big incentive to learn," he nodded, before smiling slightly at the compliment. "I suppose I was fairly similar; my parents trained me. When I was out and about," he decided not to point out that he had been 'out and about' for a decade, "I was in some pretty rough areas, so I got training defending myself."

RE: We Need to Talk
Mosden nodded. "Definitely sure. You were just reminding me of a memory I'd long forgotten." It was a half-truth. While he was angry at Evan for using that horrid curse, he was angry and surprised at how similar they were. 'I wasn't in control of myself.' The same words he had used. He instead focused on Evan's explanation of his dueling skills. He raised an eyebrow. "Must have been hard, living on your own. I'm still trying to get used to the fact that I have a say in my life."
