Same Setting, Different Day
Untold Secrets
Same Setting, Different Day

The plot for this thread is entitled Same Setting, Different Day.

Role Playing as Benjamin Wilson.

Looking in the mirror, Ben checked over his robes one more time. He was in his new majestic office. It had a high ceiling and was well decorated. There was not a speck of dirt in sight, and everything was organised or filed away. He wondered how long he would be able to maintain this cleanliness, but quickly shook the idea out of his mind and returned to straightening his tie.
Several paintings were watching him on the walls with interest. For them it was a reminder of old times, the first meeting of the students and staff for a new year. But for Ben it meant so much more. It was the start of a new beginning for him - his reign over Hogwarts.

Once he had finished fiddling with his tie, his attention wandered to the paintings on the wall. One by one he looked at each of the previous headmasters, and in turn they acknowledged him by nodding back. They had been in his place at some point, and remembered how it had felt.
He glanced at the watch on his wrist and saw that it was getting closer to the time. Taking one last glance in the mirror he made his way over to the large oak door, fiddling in his pockets to look for his keys. It was time he made his way down...

A few minutes later he arrived in the entrance hall. It was well decorated and had been renovated since it was last used. The school's colours were draped across every wall, various paintings and artwork were dotted around the room and everything was light up by a large chandelier in the middle of the room. The atmosphere was ecstatic. Many people had turned up for the opening ceremony. Amongst them was the Minister for Magic, various press agencies, and many of the parents of the students who were to attend that year.
The attention quickly moved to Ben, and there was an applause as the press cameras turned to him and begun to snap away. He had a smile on his face, but it was an uncomfortable smile. He was very anxious to get started. He waved to a few of the Ministry officials he recognised and shook a few parent's hands before making his way into The Great Hall.

The tables were full with students who stared at him as he walked down the aisles. He made his way to the head of the staff table and stood there, waiting for everyone to make their way to their seats.

RE: Same Setting, Different Day
Role Playing as Jack Miller

Jack Miller moved through the crowd, not pushing, but at the same time not allowing himself to be overtaken. Students filled up every nook and cranny of the entrance hall, leaving the press to squeeze into the edges. Jack checked his watch and sighed, wondering how long it would take to get started.

Without warning, he burst through the huge aperture and into the Great Hall. And it really was Great. The room was largely than anything that Jack had ever seen before; larger than anything that he could have possibly imagined before. Already hundreds of students had filed in and taken their seats, but the hall was still only half full. The chandelier glistened, fuelling the atmosphere as the babble of talk reached fever pitch.

Jack found an empty seat and sat down, eager for proceedings to begin. He gazed up at the new headmaster, wondering what was going through his head. It was certainly not going to be easy for him. Jack shrugged, glad it wasn't up to him.

His stomach rumbled loudly, bringing him back down to Earth and making a few First Years from the neighbouring table laugh. He threw a smile at them and turned to his empty plate, urging his food to appear early. After a minute he gave up and turned back to the headmaster as he prepared to speak.

RE: Same Setting, Different Day
Role Playing as Tool Box

In the corner of the Great Hall stood an aged man. Though evidently old, he did not use a cane to support himself. As a result, he seemed to sway slightly as he stood watching the proceedings. It had been a long time since the Great Hall had been this full of people. With a pang of guilt, he remembered the battle that had ensued within it, the fallen. He made a mental note to check the History archives at the Ministry of Magic, if he could make it there, and see what exactly happened after that particularly nasty war. A pheonix flew overhead, singing joyfully at the new arrivals.
The man glanced at the new Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and wondered if he even knew the reason he was here, the reason he had found Hogwarts. The man doubted it. Though, the new Headmaster had got adjusted to this new found scheme of magic quite quickly, despite living a muggle life prior to this. It was quite remarkable, thought the man, the way the Wizards had evolved over the last couple of centuries.
He watched the Great Hall fill up, and wondered who was cooking the food down below. He didn't like it much, being out of the know. Back in his day, Dan would have told him what was going on, kept him informed. But these days, no doubt his aged look meant that people like Ben overlooked him. In fact, he wondered whether anyone would even recognise his name. So many years had passed, he doubt any of them, except the Minstry who had kept the most accurate of records, knew who he was, and the more he thought about it, the less surprised he was that Ben did not keep him as informed as Dan.
Tool decided now was not the time to think about it. Although, at the back of his mind a slight twinge of guilt had formed, as he remembered more about his final days, a guilt he couldn't shift easily.

RE: Same Setting, Different Day
Role Playing as Evan Koth

Evan Koth eased slowly through the crowd, his eyes darting around and taking in every detail as he did so. Among the press, he noticed an elderly man in the corner watching the scene with a sense of distance in his eyes. Evan scanned the man and made a mental note of him; he could be important.

As a result of his time hiding on the streets, wherever Evan went he immediately began to scan his surroundings; survival depended on having an exit route and a weapon to hand. He took in faces, automatically deciding whether they were a threat or not, and if he would be able to defeat them in a fight...

A first year stumbled over Evan's robes, steadying himself on Evan. The first year looked up and mumbled an apology, obviously terrified. Evan glared at him and then turned away, annoyed to be distracted in his work.

Evan continued searching the Hall, failing to be taken in by its awesome majesty. He reduced the most beautiful of ornaments to mere calculations; no, the hourglass which would count the House points was too heavy to be a weapon, although the hundreds of candles floating above his head would be perfect. His right hand stayed permanently by his side, ready to make for his wand if need be. Without saying a single word, he finally reached a seat and lowered himself into it. He continued to size up the passing students as he waited for the ceremony to begin.

RE: Same Setting, Different Day
Role Playing as Tool Box

A pair of eyes seemed to search Tool momentarily. He looked around the hall again and saw a first year stumble into an older student. He saw the older student glare down at the first year and sighed.
"Another year, another day, another term, another bully." thought Tool, making a mental note to catch the name of the student when the sorting began.
In the back of his mind, Tool thought back to the bullies he had dealt with in his time. From the small fry school bullies, right up to the dark lords. Carevo sprang to mind, and Tool felt another twinge of guilt, remembering the war that had ensued. Such a long time has passed since then, Tool wondered again whether anyone would remember it. The Hall was filling up, and the noise levels were rising. He shifted slightly in his stance, his aged back beginning to pain him as he began to think.

RE: Same Setting, Different Day
Role Playing as Evan Koth

Evan snapped round, feeling a pair of eyes boring into the back of his head. Sure enough, the old man was still there, and this
time it was his turn to register Evan. The boy refused to be fazed, but made a mental note to himself to keep an eye on that man. He was in this school for a reason and Evan had a feeling he was about to see a lot more of him. As he glared at the First Year, he caught the man sighing as his mind wandered back to the past. Was this guy a teacher? Evan grimaced; if he was, his lessons were going to become very interesting.

RE: Same Setting, Different Day
Role Playing as Mosden Vincent

Mosden stared at the Entrance Hall from the open double doors, his face a slight grimace. He couldn't believe the size of the crowd! Giving a sigh, he began to wade through the crowd, making his way to The Great Hall. He could feel the bodies of parents and other students bump and press on him, each time causing his frown to grow bigger. He liked his personal space, and here it was being violated by hundreds of strangers.

Soon he was able to make it past the throng of people and into The Great Hall. The size was nearly unbelievable! Noticing that students were pouring in behind him, he decided to sit down at one of the many empty seats. He managed to find a seat only a couple away from some boy with vibrant green eyes that oddly matched his hair. He was too busy sizing everyone up to notice Mosden sit down. Deciding to follow him, he began looking around at the students and headmaster. No one seemed to really stand out among the students, everyone looking pretty normal in their school outfit. He then sized up the headmaster, which in all honesty, looked ever-so-slightly anxious. But he didn't blame him. He was reopening a school that was praised all across the wizarding world. Just as he was about to turn to the empty plate in front of him, the boy sitting next to him snapped his head to look at a fixed point.

Mosden turned to get a look at who the kid was staring at, and noticed an old man that was heavily scarred. Curiosity bubbled inside of him and he wondered who the man was. In his opinion he was honestly one of the more unique individuals he had seen since coming here.

RE: Same Setting, Different Day
Role Playing as Evan Koth

Evan sensed an older boy sitting down near him, but chose to ignore him for the meantime. He continued watching the pupils go by, from the nervous First Years who stumbled along, with sweat breaking out across their brows, to the Sixth Years using their vantage point to find one of the rapidly disappearing empty seats. But after a moment he noticed that the other boy was following his gaze. He felt the boy's eyes next to his as he glanced at the old man, taking the presence in at the same time. Evan turned round, determined to know whether this was friend or foe. His senses heightened. His hand stretched for his wand.

Evan relaxed. He had forgotten himself. Stupid! Here he was, at Hogwarts, safe for the first time in years. This was just another pupil, not a rival on the streets. There was enough food for the both of them. He could do no harm to him. He continued to take in the boy; noticing how his eyes were the closest in colour to his own Evan had ever seen.

RE: Same Setting, Different Day

Out of the corner of Mosden's eye he saw the boy shift positions. Mosden gave a quick glance over to the boy to find him staring right at him! Vibrant green eyes met icy white-blue as the two grew tense, but dissipated into calmness almost at the same time. Mosden also realized that the boy wasn't a threat to him.

'I should do something' Mosden though to himself, beginning to get uncomfortable at what had become a staring contest. He didn't want to talk really, having no real need to know more about this person, but he could at least say hi or something.

Mosden gave a small nod of his head, acknowledging the boy. If the boy decided to talk, he would try to talk back, but there was no way he would begin.

RE: Same Setting, Different Day

Now Evan had an even better chance to take in the boy, as they locked eyes. They both relaxed, realising that they were safe around each other. Evan nodded back slowly, gradually growing uncomfortable as he made social contact; something he had not done before. Evan made to turn away. Why should he start now? But then something made him think again. This was supposed to be a new start for him. A new life. Perhaps he should do something to mark it. And maybe he would be safer here if he had some contacts. After all, with so many people clustered together at once who knows what could happen?

"Hello," Evan said, trying to force some strength into his voice. He looked down at once, but then made to look up again. This time, he reluctantly blinked.
